Guild information - joining our guilds

This is your story… and it begins now.

How will it end? Will it ever end?

Its all up to you… You, and your rag tag crew of colonists and settlers, all freshly thawed from a millennium of cold storage and plugged back into your minds.

Our goal:

To leave the traditional concept of collaborating in the metaverse behind, devising new ways of working and playing in virtual worlds.

Our concept:

Gridrock city is made up of guilds. Each guild focuses on a certain aspect of 3d content creation providing an outlet for education, discussion, socializing, and earning BLU$. Working together, the guilds collaborate to make wondrous things, and share them in a creative science fiction based environment.

Guilds Membership :

First things first.. You’ve just been reanimated, you’re disoriented… Relax, take some time to explore the City. When you want to get settled in, you can choose any of the available apartments in the guild halls or other locations to live in, or you can build and upload your own home with a choice of locations on a ‘prospector’ plot.

Next, get an idea of the Gridrock Guilds, and how joining a guild gives you shelves in the guild shop to sell your wares and the support of fellow guild members.

If you are interested in joining a guild , you will need to contact the Guild Steward responsible for activities in your interest area, please contact us for more information.

There are many areas of crossover between the guilds, but each guild individually is focussed around the Guild Shop. For launch we are offering membership in a refined choice of guilds:

Elementals guild – landscape and natural objects
Tailors guild – avatar clothing and style
Masons guild – architecture and design
Directors guild – animation and production
Authors guild – writing and character design
Merchants guild – economy and general trade
Mechanics guild – Vehicle and scripting related
Guild membership includes:

-Residence
-shop space
-upload your creations
-blog space
-technical support
Fees: (will be finalized when Blue Mars Economy is ready, all will be payable in BLU$ Please talk to us about reservations)

Guild membership:
BLU$ equivalent of Popular MMO fees
Guild Prospector:
Basic Guild Membership +
Upload / Conversion charges depending on model
Join us on this expedition into creation, please talk to us about how you can get started with a residence and shop space in our city.

Blue Mars does not spell the death of the middle class in virtual worlds

Discussions tend to form patterns, and the pattern of Blue mars content creation banter is that it somehow excludes the hobbyist from having any fun with making 3d stuff. This is so completely unfounded it just makes me cringe when i see these kind of comments. Granted it is more challenging, but the results are very much worth some learning time, don't you think?

We at GRC are committed to prove all the naysayers wrong and help you get started building your dream in Blue Mars right now! We can support your goals from making and selling a handful of avatar items, to large shops and blocks for established metaverse and RL brands.

This is serious fun happening here folks, here's your chance to get involved early and beat the rush!!

The future was then, drawing inspiration from 1900's inventors

It was right around the time I started playing around with Blue Mars (early summer 09) that a friend pointed me to a video on daily motion about Nikola Tesla. From that point on it just made sense to base the new Blue mars city on his exploits.

I hope you enjoy your experiences with GRC, never think that we are too busy to talk to you guys.. this forum is here for your questions!

Here is a slightly shorter version of the video:

Understanding virtual world technology: Knowing your strengths, staying busy, and keeping it fun

I follow a handful of 3d blogs, tweets, and forums like you do I'm sure. What are they telling us about the current state of virtual worlds? There's a few camps...

Obviously the big SL crowd has grumblings and mutterings about all sort of things related to any new world that comes out.

In spite of SL's whining, these new worlds are still around, thinking Twinity, FriendsHangout.

Opensim /ReactionGrid looks great, I am considering getting a region there just for kicks.. God knows I have enough sculpties to fill it up haha!

Exit Reality makes so much sense its just silly, but needs a new name ASAP.

When we start moving into the brand new platforms a la BM, Unity, or Unreal SDK there is some amazing potential and with recent licensing changes expect some waves. Now Blue Mars... what Avatar Reality has done is provide us with tools to access the Cryengine2 in a way that is modular and task - based. For those people getting restless for news on BM, I highly recommend to be patient. There are some amazing features in a ready/testing state that will knock your socks off.

That gets to the point in the title, AR seems to know their strengths quite well. There's a large group developers pushing a steady level of changes and fixes with nightly builds etc as you would expect a typical game studio. They test the $^NaV#! out of things. AR is admittedly weak on content, and I think honestly are a little overwhelmed with the virtual worlds community backlash. Meanwhile development goes on both in AR and in GRC. I am seeing and doing amazing things in the various editors, every release there is new stuff. How about a fur shader? 100% compatible Flash embedding? These are only touching the surface of what is possible out of the box with the system as it is today.

In knowing yourself and what you can contribute to this platform, there are obviously certain limitations due to the technology, documentation and otherwise at this early adopter stage. What you choose to work on can be a big factor in determining you immediate success with the platform. Staring off by trying to re script the movement controls for example is like pulling teeth with no cavities in them. This is something that AR totally is aware of, i have personally told them we need AV movement that is more dynamic. I am confident that they get the message. So we can't do everything we want right now, there is still so much we can do!

The smart money goes to the folks who can create a product or attraction within the limits and confines of the system. In this case I am convinced that Blue Mars is a solid and exciting platform, and that GRC as on of the 'first' user created cities, will continue to evolve and grow, becoming the 'first' of many 'firsts'.

So what are some good things to be doing right now for Blue Mars (and GRC)? If you want to make some money, I would say the clothing design is going to be big right away. This is why we have created the clothing guild. We will be providing sets of templates for guild members to use in the 2d application and work with in the clothing editor.

We have other guilds that you can read about on this site, the goal of each show you how to stay busy and make stuff that is actually going to work in the platform.

This is an amazingly fun experience for me, and I know for our team too. There is so much learning and creation happening its great to see new dreams being made reality in Blue Mars. Personally I hope to push this Tesla story ahead, I have an outline ready. I would love to see our Guilds fill in the details with characters / npcs / art / quests. This part of the City will take some time but is my ultimate vision. I am glad that you folks are interested in it too!

Thanks and Regards,

Corey Evans

Surprise when testing the city

I logged in using the shortcut to my development client where I can log into the Blue mars servers, but it directs to my local version.

Lo and behold, there's an AV there! A newb to boot.. not even developer. I had thought that the instance where we log in to test was separated.. they may have made some changes. it good news because now we can do some real multi user testing from local copies of the city..

/me scratches my head ... if anyone is about, got a minute to help test out a little theory?
